Minnesota Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert shares new bald look while flaunting abs in a new photo

Rudy Gobert is entering his 13th NBA season with more than just defensive dominance on his résumé. The Minnesota Timberwolves center recently surprised fans with a striking new look, going completely bald. In a photo shared on Instagram, Gobert showed his shaved head while putting in offseason work at the gym, his sculpted abs stealing just as much attention as the hairstyle change.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year, Rudy Gobert, has experimented with different hairstyles before, including dyeing his hair bright green in 2022 during his Utah Jazz days, but this marks his most drastic switch yet. Going bald is not common in today’s NBA, but Gobert now joins players like Derrick White and Alex Caruso, who previously embraced the look.


Gobert, 33, is preparing for his fourth season with the Timberwolves after the blockbuster trade that sent him from Utah to Minnesota. Despite heavy criticism throughout his career, he remains a defensive anchor. Last season, he appeared in 72 games, averaging 12.0 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks while shooting an efficient 66.9 percent from the field.

The French big man also showed his commitment to conditioning this offseason. From the same post, it was clear he has spent considerable time in the gym, signaling his determination to extend his career and remain impactful on both ends of the floor.

Rudy Gobert continues to prove his value with Minnesota Timberwolves

Gobert’s transformation comes at an important moment for Minnesota. The Timberwolves are fresh off one of the best seasons in franchise history, reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2024. Though they fell short of a Finals berth, Gobert’s defensive presence and playoff performance silenced some critics, even drawing backhanded praise from Shaquille O’Neal, who said, “I never thought I would say these words that are coming out of my mouth: Rudy Gobert is dominating.”

The Timberwolves will get an early test against Gobert’s former team, the Utah Jazz, with back-to-back meetings in November as part of the NBA Cup. Gobert has held a strong record against Utah since the trade, going 6-2 overall and remaining unbeaten in Salt Lake City.
