Will Giannis Antetokounmpo play tonight against the San Antonio Spurs? Latest update on the Milwaukee Bucks star's injury report (January 8, 2025)

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has been listed as probable for his team’s upcoming game against the San Antonio Spurs. The Greek Freak received three stitches on his pinkie finger following his team’s win over the Raptors this Monday. But, the Bucks’ real concern is Giannis’ right patella tendinopathy which has held him back in a few games this season. However, it is important to note that Antetokounmpo seems to be in fine spirits and is averaging 29.1 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 5.5 assists over his team’s last 10 games.

There is a good chance that Antetokounmpo will take the floor tonight, as the Bucks have been struggling as of late. The team has a record of 5-5 over their last 10 and is barely holding on to the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. However, we’ve already seen what the Bucks are capable of when they’re fully healthy. Just a month ago, Milwaukee put the league on notice when they defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the NBA Cup.

While Giannis is expected to play, the same can’t be said for Khris Middleton. Middleton is currently listed as probable for Wednesday’s game owing to his ankle issues. It is worth noting that the Bucks have been extra careful with the 33-year-old ever since he underwent ankle surgeries during the off-season. The Bucks likely want to ensure that Middleton is ready to go for the playoffs.

Then again, why wouldn’t they? For the longest time, Antetokounmpo and Middleton have carried the Bucks on their backs. Middleton has been to the Greek Freak what Klay Thompson used to be to Stephen Curry. When these two are on the floor and healthy, hardly any team in the NBA can take them down with ease. While the Bucks might miss two of their biggest stars, the Spurs will be close to full strength with both Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul being available.

However, the Spurs will have to make some adjustments to account for Jeremy Sochan who is currently sidelined. Sochan is an integral presence in both the paint and on the wing, so not having him on the floor could be troublesome while dealing with the Bucks’ size.
