SHIMOGA: The drizzle at lunch and a sharper one a little after resumption which interrupted play infused a sense of urgency in West Indies' batsmen.
Their prime motive was to make certain that Kraig Brathwaite and Narsing Deonaraine could notch up centuries before rain aborted the second unofficial Test against India 'A' at the Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering ground.
The left-handed Deonaraine, chosen to tour India with the main team later this month, missed out by seven runs but Brathwaite squeezed out the first ton of the series before bad light and rain halted play.
The match was called off and West Indies who won the first unofficial Test in Mysore last week retained their 1-0 lead. The third and final 'Test' commences in Hubli on Wednesday.
India, keen on giving their bowlers – Test discard
Zaheer Khan in particular – a good workout, achieved the objective on this flat, slow pitch which looked good enough to last another four days. Brathwaite, whom his skipper
Kirk Edwards described as special, was his dour self. His consistency in this series has certainly been a credit to his temperament.
