KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ejaz Butt on Sunday blamed the media for making speculations and insisted he had not taken any decision to replace
Younis Khan by
Shahid Afridi as national team captain.
Butt is scheduled to announce his decision on the resignation of Younis on Monday and has already held a long confidential meeting with the Pakistan captain.
"It is all speculation by the media that the board has decided to remove Younis as captain and appoint Shahid Afridi in his place.
No such decision has been taken," he said.
Butt also made it clear that he was authorised to appoint or fire a captain and didn't need the approval of governing council members for this.
"The meeting of the governing council tomorrow is a routine one and it has a long agenda dealing with our annual budget, domestic cricket matters etc. But obviously the Younis Khan matter should be discussed and I will brief the members," Butt said.
The PCB chairman said he had a productive meeting with Younis but refused to divulge any details.
"I have not accepted the resignation of Younis and I have told him this. We had a long productive meeting but what we decided will only be known tomorrow."
"So far Younis has done a good job as captain and the team is also progressing well. I will take all these things into consideration while dealing with this issue and reaching a decision," Butt said.
