KARACHI: Pakistan Test leg-spinner Danish Kaneria is upset with the recent comments made by chief selector Abdul Qadir about his future in the national One-day team and would take up the matter with skipper Younis Khan.
Sources close to Kaneria said that the leg-spinner was upset that Qadir had publicly written off his future in the national One-day team and also demeaned his status as one of the world's leading spinners at the moment.
"Kaneria will speak to captain Younis Khan and ask him to take up the matter with the Pakistan Cricket Board," a source said.
He said Kaneria wanted Younis to speak to the board officials and ask them whether the chief selector was allowed to make disparaging remarks about a national team player without fear of facing any disciplinary action under the code of conduct.
"If there is a code of conduct for the players, Kaneria wants to know whether there is no code of conduct for the selectors who can say what they like in the media," the source said.
Himself a former Test leg-spinner, Qadir ridiculed Kaneria's seniority in the team in a recent interview. He said Pakistan does'nt have a quality spinner and tipped uncapped leg-spinner Yasir Shah to fill up the slot for Pakistan.
Yasir was selected in the Pakistan squad for the one-day series in Bangladesh at the expense of Kaneria who has taken 225 wickets in 53 Tests but failed to cement his place in the One-day squad.
With the Bangladesh tour being postponed, insiders have said that Younis might push the selectors to consider more experienced Kaneria in the side for the One-day series against Australia in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from April 22.
The source said that Kaneria was upset that Qadir had demeaned his past contributions and had been publicly ridiculing him since taking over as chief selector.
"Kaneria wants a stop to this or he intends to make it clear he will not hold back in the media," the source added.
