Sri Lanka vice-captain Kumar Sangakkara said the entire team was safe and players were out of danger after their team bus was attacked in Lahore.

NEW DELHI: Sri Lanka vice-captainKumar Sangakkara on Tuesday said the entire team was safe and players were outof danger after their team bus was attacked by masked gunmen near the Gaddafistadium in Lahore."There are a few injuries but everyone is safe andall the players are out of danger," Sangakkara said."We are shocked,but apart from that everyone is OK," he added.At least six Sri Lankaplayers, including skipper Mahela Jayawardene, vice-captain Sangakkara, AjanthaMendis, Thilan Samaraweera and Tharanga Paranavitana were injured when the teamconvoy was attacked by 12 gunmen, killing five policemen, on their way toGaddafi stadium for the third day's play of the second Test againstPakistan."I had shrapnel injuries on my shoulder, but they have allbeen removed and I'm OK now," said Sangakkara."Thilan has a shrapnelwound in his leg, but he is fine. Paranavitana had a shrapnel in his chest, butthank God it was not very deep and just a surface wound.""Ajanthahad shrapnel injuries to his neck and scalp, but he too has had medicalattention and is fine," said the Sri Lanka vice-captain.Despite theattacks on their lives, Sangakkara said he does not regret travelling toPakistan.
"It's very unfortunate that this has happened. I don't regret cominghere to play cricket because that's what we have been doing all ourlives.""That is our profession. But all we want to do now is to goback home to our families, get back home and be safe," hesaid.Skipper Jayawardene said the assailants attacked the bus whileit was on its way to the stadium. "The gunmen targeted the wheels of the busfirst and then the bus," Jayawardene said. "We all dived to the floor to takecover."
