The Pittsburgh Steelers entered the 2025 playoffs with the utmost hope of delivering a peak season for the team. Instead, their Wild Card exit has now left a significant amount of uncertainty for QB Aaron Rodgers. Their Monday night’s 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans was a devastating loss, with the QB struggling to make even a single touchdown. It was a tough game for the Steelers as the Texans crushed them at every step, with the QB completing only just 17 of 33 passes for 146 yards. With Rodgers past the agility and mobility he once possessed, former Patriots QB Tom Brady is recognizing the pressure of longevity and wanting to deliver a strong performance at a stage where one’s body might not be able to achieve it.

Tom Brady’s perspective highlights the invisible grind behind retirement decisions

As Rodgers processes the loss, Tom Brady reflected on his last game with the Buccaneers and how similar his situation was at the time to Rodgers’ recent game. Speaking on The Herd, Brady explained how it becomes excruciating for players to keep trying to be relevant and physically consistent with time.
He told Colin Cowherd, “Everyone loves the hype of the first four miles and the glory of the last two. But the middle 20 miles, the preparation, the maintenance, the year-round grind are what truly test your soul.” He is pointing to the constant grind and the physical toll that players go through as they try to maintain the legacy they’ve created.
Brady admitted his final season was emotionally and physically demanding, even with the achievements he has. Rodgers now faces that same puzzling situation after his recent performance, as continuing means dealing more with the physical wear and tear that comes with the game at 42.For Pittsburgh, Rodgers’ decision will ripple through every plan they make this offseason. A potential return signals another year of belief in the veteran’s capabilities that have defined him over the years, while retirement will be a reset as the team looks for the next franchise quarterback. Also read: Aaron Rodgers takes his last 2025 season dig at his former team New York Jets
