At 73, Belichick has little left to prove in football. Eight Super Bowl titles cemented his legacy long ago. Still, his move to lead the UNC Tar Heels came with heavy expectations. Those expectations went unmet. North Carolina finished 4-8, failed to reach a bowl game, and struggled across nearly every phase of play. While the results raised questions, Belichick’s personal life drew just as much attention, especially his relationship with Hudson, who remained a constant presence throughout the season.


The couple has imbibed a mutual respect and support for each other’s endeavors. After UNC’s final home game, Hudson posted a message that mixed humor with loyalty. On Instagram, she wrote, "I've loved supporting @billbelichick at his adult all-male football league competitions this season," before adding, "Until next year, Kenan!" The quote sparked conversation online, with some reading it as a playful jab at critics who followed the couple closely all year.

As the offseason began, Belichick wasted little time addressing the football side. North Carolina confirmed the dismissal of offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens and special teams coordinator Mike Priefer. The changes reflected a clear acknowledgment that the program fell well short of its internal goals.

The offense ranked among the weakest in the country, and special teams failed to deliver consistency despite Priefer’s NFL background. Belichick said in a statement, "We want to thank Coach Kitchens and Coach Priefer for their commitment and many contributions. We wish them both nothing but the best in their future endeavors."

Behind the scenes, Belichick and general manager Mike Lombardi are reshaping the staff with the long-term vision still intact. The goal of building a program that mirrors professional standards has not changed. With a 2026 season opener scheduled in Dublin against TCU, pressure is already building.
