La La Anthony’s journey from celebrity to community leader

La La Anthony is stepping out of the shadows of her past, proving she’s more than just "Carmelo Anthony’s ex-wife." Recently, she earned a major recognition from New York City, her very own street, "La La Anthony Lane." This honor celebrates her transformative work with incarcerated youth through her nonprofit, ThreeSixty.

Ciara, her best friend, took to Instagram to share in the celebration, writing “Proud of you @lala ,” alongside a clip of La La holding her street sign. But it was Ciara’s words, “Oh you know we pullin up!” that captured the significance of La La’s achievement, a powerful tribute to her lasting community impact. (via: EssentiallySports)

Through ThreeSixty, La La provides mentorship, life skills, and re-entry programs for young men at Rikers Island. Her work is personal, shaped by her experience as a mother to a teenage son. “At this age, they’re still so young,” she shared in a PEOPLE interview, emphasizing her emotional connection to these young men.

La La’s commitment goes beyond mentorship, she’s there on holidays, serving meals and sharing gratitude with the young men she mentors. This Thanksgiving, she spent the day at Rikers Island, showing up for the very community that inspired her nonprofit.

By bringing in celebrity friends for mentorship, legal aid, and mental health support, La La is helping these young men rebuild their lives. Her work isn’t just about appearances, it’s about changing futures, one young person at a time.

La La Anthony and Ciara's journey of empowerment and change

La La’s gratitude for the honor was clear in her Instagram post: “Thank you to NYC DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT for presenting me with my own street name for my prison reform & re-entry work through my program at Rikers THREESIXTY.” Her pride in the achievement reflects her deep commitment to change.

Ciara Wilson, equally dedicated to philanthropy, has made her mark with Russell Wilson through the “Why Not You?” Foundation, launching the first-ever “WHY NOT YOU Center” in Pittsburgh to inspire youth. She also fused her love for music with giving back, organizing a dance competition with Colossal Impact offering $20,000 and a chance to star in her music video.

While Carmelo Anthony’s name resonates in NYC sports, it’s La La who’s creating a lasting impact. Ciara’s unwavering support highlights the power of women empowering women. La La’s ongoing hands-on involvement with THREESIXTY, paired with the new “La La Anthony Lane,” is a testament to her legacy of making a difference.
