OG Zack Martin asked for a pay raise 2 years ago, and now, he plans to retire from the Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys had locked offensive guard Zack Martin in a six-year extension contract of $84 million in 2018. But this made Zack Martin lag behind all top guards who were annually earning more than him. The most celebrated guard of the Cowboys then asked for a raise that would level him up to the other NFL guards.
Finally, in 2023, Martin got his expected raise and leveled up to the other NFL guards with an $18 million annual salary. It made Dallas Cowboys guard Zack Martin fall behind only two NFL guards, Indianapolis Colts guard Quenton Nelson and Atlanta Falcons guard Chris Lindstrom.
The most successful offensive lineman, Zack Martin, was with the Dallas Cowboys ever since they picked him in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft as the 16th overall pick. Martin shone in his Cowboys’ journey with accolades like 9-time Pro Bowl, 7-time First-team All-Pro, 2-time Second-team All-Pro, Offensive Rookie of the Year (2014), and NFL 2010s All-Decade Team.
But who knew Zack Martin would retire at the age of 34?
Zack Martin had just one year left in his 6-year extended contract of $84 million with the Dallas Cowboys
During the 2024 NFL season, the most accomplished offensive lineman, Zack Martin, played only 10 games for the Dallas Cowboys because he was away due to injuries. OG Zack Martin missed the final 7 games of the Dallas Cowboys.
In 2019, it was a back injury. In 2020, a concussion to the head and calf injury. In 2023, groin injury. In 2024, it was an ankle injury which required an ankle surgery.
The longest-running offensive guard in the Dallas Cowboys, Zack Martin, will soon be honored with the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Dallas Cowboys’ Ring of Honor.
FanSided’s Criss Partee wrote, “
Brock Hoffman might literally be the leader in the clubhouse for the role of replacing future first-ballot Hall of Famer Zack Martin. At just 25 years old, Hoffman has had his prime years in full focus ahead of him and might be the best man for the job.”
