Last season, James finished with 50 tackles, two sacks, and three interceptions while continuing to lead the secondary.

His overall NFL resume already stands out. James owns five Pro Bowl selections, one first-team All-Pro honor, and four second-team All-Pro selections. Few defensive backs matched that level of consistency since his arrival in the league.

Jim Harbaugh’s strong praise for Derwin James now looks even bigger

The Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh made headlines last season when he explained how highly he views James. Speaking to reporters during the regular season, Harbaugh said:

“I've called him the best safety I've ever seen in the history of the National Football League. I don't think I'm going out on a limb.”

That quote grabbed attention across the NFL at the time. After this new contract, the Chargers backed up those words with serious money.
