Eagles quietly settle the Jalen Hurts versus AJ Brown debate as trade interest grows across the league
The Philadelphia Eagles are entering the offseason with less uncertainty than the outside noise suggests. While speculation around AJ Brown continues to build, league insiders believe the organization has already settled its internal debate. Speaking on The Herd with Colin Cowherd podcast, Dianna Russini emphasized that the Eagles have no interest in letting the situation linger and cannot afford to repeat past mistakes.
She explained that the team is committed to reshaping its approach for the upcoming season and has no intention of moving on from Jalen Hurts. If a choice must be made between Brown and Hurts, she pointed out that the organization will always side with the quarterback, especially one the owner strongly supports and who is also the reigning Super Bowl MVP.
Hurts is the Super Bowl MVP, beloved by ownership, and the foundation of the franchise. Brown, meanwhile, has been open about his dissatisfaction. Russini further addressed that “He [A.J. Brown] is not happy. He was not happy going back to last year… So here we are this year. And, I think it’s going to be up to him. I think the bottom line [is] Philadelphia is not stupid.”
Signs of tension surfaced as early as 2024, when Brandon Graham hinted at a strain between Hurts and Brown, saying, “11 [Brown] could be a little better with how he responds to things.” Brown’s one-word response after a quiet passing game, followed by a cryptic Bible verse post in 2025, only fueled speculation. Even after a reported positive meeting with Hurts and Saquon Barkley, Brown’s silence kept questions alive.
On the field, Brown’s performance dipped despite crossing 1,000 yards. The offense leaned more on Dallas Goedert, and Brown averaged fewer catches and yards than in prior seasons. About Brown’s possibilities, Cowherd stated, “I think Buffalo should be interested.” Russini imagines Kansas City showing interest and the potential of pairing Brown with Patrick Mahomes.

Philadelphia prioritizes stability at quarterback as Brown’s frustration draws outside attention
Russini made it clear where the Eagles stand, saying, “They’re not going to waste their time. They can’t go through what they just did again. This team has to revamp how they approach this season. And they’re not moving on from Jalen Hurts, right? So you’re picking AJ Brown, or you’re picking Jalen Hurts. Who are you picking? You’re picking the quarterback.”Hurts is the Super Bowl MVP, beloved by ownership, and the foundation of the franchise. Brown, meanwhile, has been open about his dissatisfaction.
