Michelle Manziel, the mother of former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel, was arrested on Saturday night for driving while intoxicated in Kerrville, Texas. As reported by TMZ Sports, Michelle was taken into custody with a bail set at $7,500, which has since been paid, leading to her release. This incident has drawn significant attention due to the Manziel family’s history of public controversies, particularly those surrounding Johnny’s turbulent career and personal struggles.

Michelle Manziel, a real estate executive according to her social media profile, has remained in Kerrville—the same town where Johnny Manziel attended Tivy High School before rising to national fame as the Texas A&M Aggies' quarterback. While Johnny’s college career was filled with accolades, including the prestigious 2012 Heisman Trophy, his off-field issues often overshadowed his talent.


Even before his first college game, Johnny had already found himself entangled in legal troubles. In 2012, he was arrested and charged with three misdemeanors. His NFL career, which began with high expectations after being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2014, quickly unraveled due to repeated off-field incidents. By 2015, the Browns had grown weary of his behavior, with sports journalist Peter King reporting that the franchise was "so done with Manziel." His downward spiral continued in 2016 when he was dropped by both his marketing agency, LRMR, and his agent, Erik Burkhardt.

Johnny later admitted to heavy drug use, detailing in the Netflix documentary Untold: Johnny Football that he frequently abused OxyContin and cocaine. Despite multiple rehab recommendations after being released by the Browns, he refused treatment, sinking deeper into addiction. His struggles with substance abuse were further exacerbated by his 2016 legal troubles, which stemmed from allegations of domestic violence against his then-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley. Though the charges were ultimately dropped, he was mandated to attend anger management and rehab.

In 2023, Johnny Manziel publicly acknowledged his bipolar disorder diagnosis, shedding light on the mental health struggles that contributed to his self-destructive behavior. "The wires in my head seemed twisted," he admitted in Untold, revealing that after the diagnosis, he experienced suicidal thoughts and dramatically increased his drug use.

His struggles were further detailed in a 2024 appearance on Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe, where he candidly discussed his lowest point following his departure from the NFL. "I was 210 lbs. when I left Cleveland, I was 170 lbs. sitting in Vegas that August, September, October," he said. "How do you lose 40 lbs.? You’re on a strict diet of blow.” His drastic weight loss highlighted the severity of his drug abuse, which he admitted he was unable to fully comprehend at the time.

In recent years, Johnny has attempted to turn his life around, hosting a podcast titled Glory Daze and speaking openly about his past mistakes. While his road to redemption remains ongoing, his mother’s recent arrest has once again placed the Manziel name in the headlines for unfortunate reasons. The Kerrville Police Department has yet to provide further details on Michelle Manziel’s case.
