Hailee Steinfeld breaks silence after Buffalo Bills loss as Sean McDermott firing shakes Josh Allen’s world

Hailee Steinfeld, the actress and wife of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, shared disappointing news this week while the Bills were already going through a painful moment. On Saturday, January 17, 2026, the Buffalo Bills lost 33–30 in overtime to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional Round at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver. Buffalo's season finished in tragic way, leaving fans and players distraught.

Just two days later, on Monday, January 19, 2026, the Bills surprised fans by firing head coach Sean McDermott, who had coached Josh Allen since he entered the NFL in 2018. As the team dealt with the sudden coaching change and another failed Super Bowl run, Steinfeld also revealed that she had to cancel a fan event she had just announced, adding another disappointing update to an already heavy week.

Hailee Steinfeld cancels Substack Live after Buffalo Bills loss

In the latest issue of her newsletter, Hailee Steinfeld excitedly told fans she would host her first Substack Live event on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, with writer Derek Blasberg.

She said she wanted to talk about the Golden Globes awards and “break down past award-show looks.”

Steinfeld wrote, “We’ll have more award show behind-the-scenes coming next week… Tune in!” But late on Monday, she shared on Instagram that the Substack Live was cancelled and would be rescheduled.

She wrote, “Hi beau society… we’re rescheduling the Substack Live with @derekblasberg today! We will share the new time and date here as soon as we’re back on.”

This came as a surprise to many fans who were looking forward to her first livestream, especially after the emotional Bills fallout.

Some followers reacted with disappointment online, saying they were excited for the event but understood the change in plans.



During the Bills-Broncos game, an old photo of Hailee Steinfeld from Super Bowl 50 in February 2016 resurfaced. In that photo she was wearing Denver Broncos gear celebrating their win.


Broncos fans showed the image on the big screen at the stadium, reviving a moment from long before she started dating Josh Allen in May 2023.

ESPN reporter Alaina Getzenberg shared that Josh Allen was asked about the picture before the game.

Allen laughed and said he had no idea the image was being talked about and joked she was “probably paid to be there.” He also said he wouldn’t bring it up at home.

Despite the old photo moment becoming a playful talking point, the Bills still lost in a close playoff battle.

Afterward, the sudden firing of Sean McDermott added more heat to the story, leaving many Bills fans and players in shock.
