The unflinching Colorado Buffaloes really cut it this year by winning themselves a spot in a bowl game after a grueling 2023. Much of this has to do with senior quarterback Shedeur Sanders, a leader of skills and talents. His father, the head coach, Deion Sanders, also played a massive part in leading Shedeur's development, as their connection gives rise to all kinds of speculation for the future—whether Coach Prime is going to the NFL with Shedeur.
Executive Voices Concerns Over Deion Sanders Potentially Coaching Son Shedeur in NFL
There are high hopes for the future career of Shedeur Sanders in the NFL, as most speculation suggests that he will come early and be among the favorites to be drafted in the top five for the 2025 NFL Draft. Obviously, top-notch training under his father has played a great role in that. However, with the assurance of Shedeur reaching the next level in his professional career, some discussions ask whether Deion Sanders will follow him into the ranks of the NFL.
Among the theories running in the discussion circuits of analysts like Michael Irvin of Fox are that Coach Prime would eventually move on to the NFL, so he can coach his son. Though that looks possible, considering that quite a number of NFL teams will have managerial turnover in the coming years, one anonymous AFC executive believes his none too rosy forecast may as well bear possibilities for Shedeur's professional future.
"I hope for Shedeur that doesn't happen," said the AFC executive. "And he has to be his own man in his own career."
Following an internal bond, this belief has it all that Shedeur should pave his own way, develop identity and career paths, away from the shadows of father Deion Sanders's presence, as it already occupies that much ground. Deion Sanders himself has addressed the controversy stating that he will not be following his children to the NFL. When asked about the possibility of coaching his sons at the professional level, Sanders was firm in his stance, saying:
"I tell them the truth. I tell them I'm a father, not a baby daddy. I don't follow my kids. I pave roads for my kids. I build generational wealth for my kids. I lead my kids. I don't follow my kids. So, I do not plan on following my kids to the NFL. But I'm thankful, I'm glad that you already pretty much put them in the NFL. That means you believe in them wholeheartedly."
These words of Deion drive home the reality that he wants to empower his children to be successful according to their own definition and not his. Clearly, he promises to support Shedeur every step of the way, but sees himself as a guiding force rather than one to be dependent.
With a 9-3 record for the regular season, making it Colorado's first winning season since the shortened COVID year, Deion Sanders has proven his mettle in turning the program around as the Buffaloes head into a bowl game. Enrolling now with the Buffs is five-star recruit quarterback Julian Lewis, and Deion appears singularly focused on the program's future.

Time will tell if Coach Prime makes the move to the NFL, but for now, he will only help his son and continue building a legacy for the Buffaloes.
