Lamar Jackson believes in Derrick Henry for MVP

Ravens running back Derrick Henry is averaging 124.7 yards per game, averaging 2,120 yards, which would break Eric Dickerson's record of 2,105 yards set in 1984. Lamar Jackson believes in Henry for MVP. “It’s there,” Jackson said Wednesday, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “I feel like he has a great chance of achieving that. I think he can do it. I believe he can do it.”

Henry has accumulated 873 rushing yards in his first seven games, surpassing Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray's 913 in 2014. His career best is 2,027 in 2020, the fifth of eight seasons with the Titans. “I don’t really try to think about that too much,” Henry said about Dickerson’s record. “Just focus on me doing my job and being better and better every week. I don’t really try to get into the statistics of things. I focus on the team goals.”

Dickerson broke the record in 16 games, while Henry will play in 17 if he stays healthy. To break the record, Henry needs to average 123.2 yards per game over his final 10 contests and 136.9 rushing yards over his next nine outings. Henry's 2020 performance, where he rushed for 2,027 yards in 16 games, stands fifth-best in league annals. Henry's next chance to boost his rushing stats is against the Cleveland Browns in an AFC North match, who rank 15th in the NFL against the run.
