A viral photo that went around during the Winter Games sparked rumors that Olympic snowboard star Chloe Kim and Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett were dating. People went crazy on social media when they saw the picture that looked like Garrett proposing on the Olympic stage. Kim has now talked about the event in public, making it clear that the picture was fake and telling fans not to be fooled by convincing digital edits.
The false rumor spread quickly, even to other Olympians, before Kim had a chance to see it. What started as a friend's happy congratulations quickly turned into confusion, showing how quickly false information can spread during big global events.
Chloe Kim clarifies viral engagement hoax tied to Myles Garrett
Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kim laughed off the situation while setting the record straight. "Don't fall for it, guys!" she told the audience after host Jimmy Kimmel displayed a printout of the edited image.
Kim revealed she first learned about the supposed engagement through Olympic skiing legend Lindsey Vonn. "I hope she doesn't get mad at me for sharing this, but she texts me," Kim said. "She's like, 'Oh my gosh, congrats.' And I'm like, 'Oh, thank you. But you already congratulated me for my medal.'"
"She's like, 'On the engagement,' " Kim continued. "I'm like, 'What?' And so, I Google 'Chloe Kim engagement' and I see this."
Even her mother quickly spotted the image’s flaws. Kim recalled that she called to mention seeing "that A.I. picture," adding that her mom insisted, "You would never wear something like that."
Kim also pointed out visual inconsistencies that made the photo obviously fake. For instance, she joked that Garrett appeared to be proposing while she already wore a ring. "Two, he's wearing sunglasses," she said. "I don't want my man to propose to me with sunglasses on."
The couple were first linked publicly in 2025 and confirmed their relationship later that year. Garrett has been a visible supporter of Kim's Olympic journey, during which she fought through injuries and exhaustion to win a silver medal in Italy.
Even though the digital hoax was false, Kim's real story is still one of strength and perspective. She thought about the experience with clarity and hope after getting to the podium despite physical and mental challenges. "I learned to change and look for the good in things," she said. "I got a lot stronger from this."
In a time when fake images can spread faster than the truth, Kim's response was a good reminder to stop, check, and laugh when you need to.
