NEW DELHI: The NFL is conducting an investigation into why the Cincinnati Bengals did not include quarterback Joe Burrow on their injury report this week, given a wrist ailment that ultimately led to his absence in Thursday night's game against the Baltimore Ravens. A league official informed ESPN of the inquiry on Friday morning.

The Bengals had initially posted a video on X on Wednesday night showing Burrow with what seemed to be a soft cast on his right hand as he exited the team bus. However, the team later deleted the post.

Burrow, visibly affected by the injury during the Ravens matchup, left the game in the second quarter and was officially ruled out shortly after halftime. Coach Zac Taylor revealed post-game that preliminary evaluations indicated a sprained right wrist, and Burrow was observed in the locker room with a multilayered wrap.

Taylor expressed unawareness of any wrist issue before the game, stating it was the first time he learned of it. He mentioned that Burrow fell on the wrist earlier in the game and exhibited serious discomfort after throwing a 4-yard touchdown pass to running back Joe Mixon, marking his final play of the night.

The NFL routinely investigates matters related to compliance with its injury report policy. Violations of this policy are taken seriously, with potential repercussions including team fines or even the loss of a draft pick. Teams were warned during the spring owners meetings that they must accurately list all injuries.

A notable past case involves the 2019 fine of the Pittsburgh Steelers and coach Mike Tomlin, totaling $100,000, for violating the injury report policy by inaccurately reporting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's status on the practice report ahead of a Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks
