Bo Nix, the Denver Broncos quarterback, has been fearless on the field all season, but off it, he admits some fears are there in his mind- especially when it comes to dogs. The 25-year-old recently confronted that fear during a playful interaction with ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit’s golden retriever, Peter, right before Denver’s Christmas Day showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs. “It’s just not my thing,” Nix confessed, opening up about why dogs have always made him uneasy. For Nix, the hesitation isn’t about being aloof- it stems from a childhood incident. “I just think when I was little I got attacked by one, and I didn't know any better," he explained. “My family didn't grow up with them. My whole family's not really a dog family. We had one when I was a kid, and then it passed away and we didn't get a new one." What followed was a viral moment months ago when Nix appeared standoffish with Peter, sparking social media criticism. On Thursday, however, the quarterback made amends, gently petting the dog while admitting, “My wife will be shocked.”

Denver’s quarterback turns “overdog” into a cause

Bo Nix isn’t just showing bravery with pets- he’s redefining it on the field. After leading the Broncos to a stunning 34-26 victory over the Green Bay Packers, the quarterback jokingly dubbed the team “overdogs.”
The term has stuck, and Nix has turned it into more than a meme. Through his “Overdogs” apparel line, a portion of proceeds will benefit the Denver Rescue Mission, supporting efforts to combat homelessness across Metro Denver and Northern Colorado. While Broncos fans are focused on playoff positioning, Nix is proving his courage goes beyond football. After Christmas Day’s win over the Chiefs, Denver holds a 13-3 record, on track to secure the AFC’s top seed. And though NFL defenses don’t intimidate him, a friendly canine companion was a different challenge- one that Nix now seems willing to face. Between leading the Broncos and supporting local causes, Bo Nix is showing fans that overcoming fears- whether on the field or off- can inspire both victory and compassion. Also Read: Jordan Love faces backlash after gifting teammates 'cheap' sneakers for Christmas despite earning a massive $55 million salary
