"Makes football more dangerous": Donald Trump takes another shot at NFL rule as he is going to make history in New Orleans
As Super Bowl LIX unfolds this Sunday, Donald Trump will etch his name in history as the first sitting president to attend the NFL’s biggest game in person. While his presence alone guarantees attention, his recent critique of the league’s controversial kickoff rule has added another layer of intrigue to the event. With the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles battling for supremacy, Trump’s involvement—both as a spectator and interviewee—has further fueled anticipation.
Taking to Truth Social on Friday, President Donald Trump expressed admiration for both teams, particularly highlighting the talent on the field. “Two great Quarterbacks in this game. Also, an unbelievable running back, and the absolute best tight end in football (Ever!). Incredible coaching,” he noted. However, his praise was accompanied by sharp criticism of the NFL’s new kickoff rule.
“If they would only get rid of that really weird looking new Kickoff ‘deal,’ which actually makes football more dangerous, they would be doing everybody, especially the fans, a big favor,” Trump remarked, voicing concerns that the rule—which was designed to limit high-speed collisions—could have unintended consequences. While the league implemented these changes before the 2024 season to enhance player safety, the visual oddity of the format has not sat well with some, including the former president.
Despite his reservations about the rule, Trump is clearly excited about the show ahead. “ANYWAY, IT WILL BE A GREAT GAME!!!” he concluded, confirming his participation in a pre-game interview scheduled for 3:00 P.M.
Fox, which holds the broadcasting rights for this year’s Super Bowl, will feature Trump in a pre-recorded interview with Bret Baier. The discussion, filmed at Mar-a-Lago, marks a return to the semi-traditional presidential interview that has been absent for the past four years. Meanwhile, Joe Biden, now 82, has opted to skip the customary Super Bowl sit-down for the third consecutive year.
As the Chiefs and Eagles prepare to clash for the second time in two years, history is on the line. Kansas City, led by Patrick Mahomes, is on the verge of cementing a dynasty with a potential third consecutive championship victory. The game, set to kick off at 6:30 P.M. ET from New Orleans’ Superdome, is expected to draw millions of viewers nationwide.

As Trump arrives in New Orleans under heightened security, speculation remains about whether he will step onto the field for the coin toss. Adding to the star-studded atmosphere, Taylor Swift will be in attendance, supporting Chiefs’ tight end and longtime boyfriend Travis Kelce. The event will also feature halftime performer Kendrick Lamar, alongside a host of celebrity appearances, making it a night filled with both football excellence and entertainment grandeur.
