Strahan's Controversy in the National Anthem
Recently, Strahan found himself under the spotlight after he was accused in the controversy that surrounded the pre-game ceremony at a United States Navy base in San Diego. Standing with arms interlocked at the waist-not held over the heart-as a form of respect the American national anthem, Strahan was seen standing during the playing of the National Anthem. The moment soon caught attention as many wondered if the stance taken by Strahan did indeed show some form of disrespect for the anthem and the military. This caused outrage among the fans, veterans, and critics as such an action was perceived to be stripping of respect normally given during the anthem.

The National Anthem is an emblem of patriotism for America. The leaders of nations or public figures are the ones who show more respect to it than others. Strahan could not even manage to replicate the ordinary gesture of placing his hand on his heart which earned much backlash. The intention behind it was equated to be some sort of a sign of disrespect while for others, it was an oversight or simply a lapse in judgment.
Fox Sports Defend Strahan, Declare It a Mistake.
But, regardless of how controversial it was, though, Fox Sports did not take much time to come forth to defend Strahan by stating that in fact, the action was a genuine accident. The network tried to establish the fact that there was no realization on Strahan's part that his hands were interlocked at his waist and could prove no intent of disrespect. They further pointed out that patriotism and character were qualities beyond any question with regard to Strahan.
No Punishment for Strahan
In response, Fox Sports said that they found no reason to punish the anchor. They even branded it an honest mistake and confirmed that everything was alright with him. The incident seems unlikely to affect his career permanently.
