As the holiday season draws near, football fans are in for a special treat this Christmas. While families gather to celebrate, the NFL is gearing up for a historic double-header on December 25, adding a festive twist to the sport’s excitement. On Thursday, Netflix announced the national anthem performers for both games.
Netflix Unveils National Anthem Performers for NFL's Exciting Christmas Day Showdown
For the first time, Netflix will provide exclusive coverage of both games. The action begins at 1 p.m. ET with the Kansas City Chiefs, the reigning two-time champions, facing off against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium. Following this, the Baltimore Ravens will clash with the Houston Texans at 4:30 p.m. ET at NRG Stadium.
The entertainment isn’t limited to the games only. Netflix has announced an exciting lineup of performances to enhance the experience. The national anthem for the Chiefs-Steelers matchup will be performed by Voices of Service, a remarkable vocal group comprising veterans and active-duty service members who gained national fame on America’s Got Talent. For the Ravens-Texans game, Texas’ very own acapella sensation, Pentatonix, will take the stage in their home state. With over a decade of exceptional performances and three Grammy Awards under their belt, their presence promises to captivate viewers.
The press release announcing Pentatonix as the national anthem performer details the group's rich history:
"As one of the most innovative, inventive, and inimitable vocal groups of all time, Pentatonix reimagine, reinvigorate, and redefine a cappella. Since emerging in 2011, the three-time GRAMMY® Award-winning and Daytime EMMY® Award-nominated vocal quintet—Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee—have reached unprecedented heights, toppling charts, selling 10 million albums worldwide, generating billions of streams, and performing everywhere from The White House and Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade to The Hollywood Bowl. Their catalog boasts back-to-back #1 albums on the Billboard 200—namely the gold-certified Pentatonix [2015] and platinum-certified A Pentatonix Christmas [2016]—and has amassed 30 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Internationally, their releases performed equally as well with five albums being certified gold, platinum, or double platinum in Canada and ranking in the Top 40 albums six times in New Zealand. Their single, "Hallelujah" also achieved international success as a platinum-certified single in Canada and gold-certified in Germany and Switzerland. They notably made history as "the first a cappella act to win 'Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella' at the GRAMMY® Awards" in 2015 and 2016. A year later, they earned another GRAMMY® Award in the category "Best Country Duo/Group Performance" for their duet with Dolly Parton on her song "Jolene."
In a dazzling addition, the legendary Mariah Carey will kickstart the games with a pre-recorded rendition of her timeless hit, "All I Want for Christmas Is You," setting a jubilant tone for the day. Meanwhile, halftime entertainment for the Ravens-Texans game will feature none other than Beyoncé, recently hailed by Billboard as "the greatest artist of the 21st century."
