The NFL announced Sunday that the legendary Green Day rock band, comprising
Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool, will kick off the Super Bowl LX with an Opening Ceremony on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
“We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!” Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong said via The Associated Press. “We are honored to welcome the MVPs who’ve shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”

The legendary band, best known for “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” [ironically, the NFL season begins in Sept.] will perform at
6 PM ET / 3 PM PT as part of the opening ceremony for Super Bowl 60 between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots.

The legendary rock band has reportedly never performed at a Super Bowl halftime show before. This could be the first crossover between rock music and sports.
The NFL says that Green Day will perform songs of note while "ushering generations of Super Bowl MVPs onto the field."
Jonathan Landrum Jr. and Andrew Dalton of The Associated Press reported that Green Day band took the pre-game stage and performed a snippet of their song, "Good Riddance [Time of Your Life]" for a parade of former Super Bowl MVPs. Local heroes Steve Young, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice were among those who walked out during the song, meant to celebrate 60 years of Super Bowls.
