The NFL offseason has sparked an unexpected quarterback debate after a bold claim involving Jordan Love and Caleb Williams went viral. Sports Illustrated analyst Grant Cohn suggested that the Green Bay Packers “would trade Jordan Love for Caleb Williams in a heartbeat,” igniting strong reactions across the league. The comment quickly gained traction, especially after Williams’ standout 2025 campaign with the Chicago Bears.

Williams emerged as one of the NFL’s most exciting young quarterbacks last season, throwing for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. His breakout performance helped Chicago push into playoff contention and reshaped the NFC North conversation. Love, meanwhile, delivered a solid season of his own with 3,381 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions, continuing to steady Green Bay’s offense. The comparison between the two has now turned into full-blown trade chatter even if the scenario appears far-fetched.

Can the Packers actually trade Jordan Love for Caleb Williams?

From a practical standpoint, such a trade is highly unlikely. Franchise quarterbacks are rarely moved, especially between division rivals. The Bears have built their offense around Caleb Williams and view him as the long-term face of the franchise. With his rookie contract still providing financial flexibility, Chicago has little reason to even consider such a move.



Jordan Love has made it clear that he is the next quarterback for the Packers after Aaron Rodgers. He made it to the list of Pro Football Focus' Top 101 players for the 2025 season, coming in at No. 37. This was his second time on the list. His 88.7 PFF passing grade was one of the finest in the league, and he made a lot less plays that were likely to lead to turnovers than in past seasons. Green Bay has put a lot of time and faith into Love's growth, so a trade is very unlikely.

Beyond contracts and team strategy, trading a franchise quarterback within the NFC North would also carry competitive risk. Teams are typically hesitant to strengthen direct rivals, particularly at the most important position on the field.

Micah Parsons' brother calls out NFL analyst

The viral comment did not go unanswered. Terrence Parsons Jr., brother of Micah Parsons, publicly questioned the analyst’s claim on social media, defending Love’s value and credibility. His sharp response added fuel to the debate and highlighted how strongly some within NFL circles view Love’s standing.



Interestingly, Love made the PFF Top 101 rankings, joining Parsons and safety Xavier McKinney as the only Packers recognized. Williams, despite his strong numbers, did not make the list a detail that supporters of Love have pointed to in the ongoing comparison.
