NFL Trade Rumors: New England Patriots urged to target $90 million elite wide receiver if A.J. Brown plan falls apart

The New England Patriots remain active in the wide receiver market as trade talks around A.J. Brown continue to swirl. The idea of pairing a proven star with young quarterback Drake Maye has picked up steam in recent weeks. However, with no deal finalised yet, the front office may need a backup plan soon.

That is where fresh Tyreek Hill trade chatter has entered the conversation. The veteran wideout from the Miami Dolphins has quietly emerged as a fallback option if the Brown move stalls. It is not a done deal, but the link has begun to gain attention across league circles.

NESN analyst Aaliyan Mohammed laid out the scenario while discussing New England’s options. In a published analysis, he pointed toward a former All-Pro wide receiver as a strong alternative if the primary plan collapses.

He wrote, “Hill is an eight-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro. He led the league in receiving yards in 2023, but is coming off a major leg injury,” Mohammed wrote in his NESN column.

The numbers back that up. Over his first two seasons in Miami, Tyreek Hill produced 3,509 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns. That level of output explains why he remains a major name in any Tyreek Hill trade discussion. At the same time, his recent knee injury has raised real questions.

Mohammed addressed that concern directly in the same piece. “Hill is one of the fastest players in the league. A leg injury like his could have permanent effects on his speed,” he added in the NESN report.


Mohammed sees Hill as a great pairing with New England Patriots QB Drake Maye because of Maye’s deep-ball ability. The NESN analyst made that argument despite Hill suffering a dislocated knee and torn ACL in his left knee last season.


Drake Maye has shown comfort pushing the ball deep, and Hill’s ability to stretch defenses could open the entire offence. That connection remains the biggest reason why the Miami Dolphins-Patriots link continues to gain traction.

There is also a financial angle. Tyreek Hill may need to prove himself again after the injury, which could open the door for a short-term deal. That scenario lowers risk for New England while keeping upside high.


For now, the focus stays on A.J. Brown. But if that door closes, the New England Patriots already have a clear pivot. And based on current trade chatter, that wide receiver could quickly move from backup plan to headline move.
