The Los Angeles Rams and Stefon Diggs are now loosely tied as free agency enters a quieter phase, but the idea has not gone away. The Rams still need a dependable third receiving option for Matthew Stafford, and Diggs remains one of the most accomplished names left on the board. After earlier buzz around A.J. Brown and Davante Adams cooled, attention has shifted toward more realistic fits.Diggs brings production, but also questions. His 2025 season with the New England Patriots showed he can still deliver, topping 1,000 yards and playing a key role in a Super Bowl run. Yet his reduced snap share and off-field concerns have complicated his market, leaving teams like Los Angeles weighing talent against risk.Stefon Diggs to Rams conversation picked up when Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer addressed how Los Angeles might fill its third receiver role. The need is real, even if it is not urgent. Behind Davante Adams and Puka Nacua, the depth chart lacks a proven, high-volume option who can win consistently in key situations.“I do think that at some point, you’re looking at bringing a third receiver in,” Breer said in the video posted on March 18. “Maybe that’s a veteran like a Stefon Diggs who could fit what you’re trying to do and fit what you’ve looked for. I don’t know that he’s quite as good a blocker as they’ve generally looked for at that position, but he could be somebody who you could bring in as a situational type of player.”That last detail matters. The Rams value versatility and blocking from their receivers, something Diggs has not been known for. Still, his route running and reliability in space would give Stafford another trusted outlet, especially in tight games. Even in a slightly reduced role last season, Diggs remained efficient and productive.From a pure football standpoint, Diggs still looks like a bargain. Pro Football Focus highlighted his efficiency, noting an 82.6 receiving grade and strong yards per route numbers. His hands remain among the most reliable in the league, and his consistency over more than a decade is hard to ignore.At the same time, there are real concerns. Diggs is approaching 33, coming off a career-low snap share, and facing a pending legal situation that could lead to discipline. For a Rams organization that has been careful about locker room dynamics, that risk cannot be dismissed.Financially, the deal would not be overwhelming. A short-term contract aligns with how contenders often approach veteran additions. But roster construction also plays a role. The emergence of Terrance Ferguson and the Rams’ increased use of tight ends could reduce the urgency for another wide receiver.Breer pointed to that shift as well. “It’s a need, but I don’t know that it’s a massive need for that team right now based on the way they’re using their tight ends. I think there should be an expectation that Terrence Ferguson is going to play a bigger role in his second year, and you’re going to be using him detached from the formation quite a bit,” Breer said.The Rams are not short on options. Between Adams, Nacua, and a versatile supporting cast, touches are already spoken for.
