According to the party, the police had refused to accept their permission letter for the protest without providing a reason. Despite this, party members gathered on Tuesday evening. RWPI claimed a minor boy and a pregnant woman were assaulted, with the latter taken to a hospital.
The Karnataka high court on Tuesday directed the central and state governments to clarify by March 23 the allocation, stock, and other aspects of commercial LPG cylinder supply to Karnataka.
Justice Sachin Shankar Magadum gave this direction after hearing a petition filed by the Bangalore Hotels’ Association and others seeking uninterrupted supply of commercial LPG cylinders to hotels and restaurants in Bengaluru.
The petitioners claimed the abrupt action of authorities in halting supply of commercial LPG cylinders was arbitrary. K Sathish, counsel for the petitioners, submitted the decision to allocate 1,000 commercial LPG cylinders to the state does not meet its requirements, as Bengaluru city alone has about 40,000 hotels and restaurants. The court was further informed that around 6 lakh people working in these hotels are affected as some eateries have had to down shutters.
Gurgaon has become the first city in NCR to get an LPG ATM — a smart vending machine that dispenses lightweight, fibre-based composite cylinders in just two to three minutes.
Installed at Central Park Flower Valley in Sector 33 of Sohna, the machine allows registered Bharatgas users to refill cylinders through a fully automated, contactless process using OTP verification and digital payment via UPI or debit card. Each cylinder weighs around 15kg, is dust-free and corrosion-free, and its transparent body lets users check the gas level easily.
The ATM can hold 10 cylinders at a time, automatically alerting the nearest gas agency when stock falls to two. Residents praised the 24x7 access and convenience, while BPCL officials said the rollout is part of a pilot to test automated dispensing and improve refill efficiency, and the facility will continue even after the current supply shortage eases.
