Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jalyx Hunt was fined over $5,000 ($5,690) for a second-quarter celebration following a sack of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, despite finishing the 2024-25 season as a Super Bowl LIX champion.
The celebration, deemed unsportsmanlike due to violent gestures, involved Hunt mimicking shooting off a bow and arrow after defeating a signal caller with his teammate Josh Hunt. The fine of over $5,000 will be imposed on his $795,000 rookie base salary in 2024 due to a controversial celebration during a game involving two Hunt-adjacent Mahomes takedowns, including a near-kickout by a referee with an air punch.
Hunt started his college career as a safety at Cornell in 2019, playing seven games and recording three tackles.The 2020 season was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He recorded 26 tackles in 10 games during 2021. Hunt transferred to the Houston Baptist Huskies – shortly thereafter renamed the Houston Christian Huskies – in 2022.
He switched to the defensive line at Houston Christian and was second-team All-Southland Conference in 2022, either holding or sharing the conference lead in tackles-for-loss (11.5), sacks (7) and forced fumbles (3).
Hunt returned in 2023 and was selected as the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year and an All-American; he finished his two-year Houston Christian career with 133 tackles, 20.5 tackles-for-loss and 13.5 sacks. He was selected to the 2024 Senior Bowl and became the first player from his school ever to be so honored, as well as one of only four from the FCS to be invited that year.
