Raiders’ new head coach Klint Kubiak reveals the simple Super Bowl tip from Gary Kubiak that helped power Seattle’s title run

Klint Kubiak has climbed fast in the NFL, now officially hired as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, but he has leaned on his dad, Gary Kubiak, for advice since the beginning. Ten years after Gary won Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos, he was back at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday night, watching his son win one of his own with the Seattle Seahawks.

In an interview with the Denver Post, Klint revealed that his father advised him to finish off game plans for the Super Bowl a week ahead. The advice turned out to be fruitful for Klint and the Seahawks, as they ended up beating the Patriots by a huge margin. Gary supported his son while also soaking in the moment and offering one final piece of advice before the biggest game of Klint’s career.

How early planning helped the Seahawks stay calm and finish the job

Before Seattle traveled to Santa Clara, Gary Kubiak told his son to get ahead of the madness. Klint Kubiak told The Denver Post, “He said, ‘Put the game plan in a week early—don’t wait until you get there.’ So we took his advice. Because when you get to the Super Bowl, there’s just so much stuff going on that it’s hard to, like, game plan.”


Gary continued, “You still keep game-planning, but there’s so many distractions. So we took his advice, and we dialed in the next week. And then we just kinda refined it when we got here.” Seattle installed the plan during the pre-Super Bowl bye week, giving players extra time to absorb it.

Quarterback Sam Darnold agreed that it made a difference. He told The Post, “Super Bowl throughout the week, like—the week leading up to the Super Bowl can be pretty hectic with media. So you want to get as much of the game plan in the week before so you can really focus on it and dive deep on it.”

The result was not a perfect offensive night, but it was a winning one. The Seahawks beat the New England Patriots 29-13, leaning on a consistent pace, amazing ball control, and a dominant run game. Kenneth Walker III delivered the defining performance, earning Super Bowl MVP after rushing for 135 yards on 27 carries.

Kubiak is now headed to Las Vegas as the Raiders’ next head coach, expected to lead a full rebuild that could start with projected No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza. But Sunday night proved that he is no longer just Gary Kubiak’s son. He is now a Super Bowl-winning coach who will be a huge asset to the Raiders.
