Tom Brady, a former NFL quarterback and Fox broadcaster, won approval for a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders in October 2024, ending a protracted approval process. Mark Davis, owner of the Raiders, expressed excitement that Brady is part of the Las Vegas Raiders' family, introducing Pete Carroll as the team's new head coach and John Spytek as its new general manager.

Mark Davis has explained his justification for pursuing Tom Brady as Raiders part-owner

Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis says he wanted to hire Tom Brady as part-owner, citing the reason for his decision as the termination of Jon Gruden's tenure, and describes his journey to this point in vivid detail. Davis said that adding Brady as a minority owner brought a needed piece that has been missing from the organization since Gruden resigned.

"Bringing in Tom Brady was bringing in somebody on the football side that I had been lacking having here in the organization," Davis told reporters. "Back in I guess it was '18, with Jon Gruden. He was somebody that I brought in and really expected to be that person on the football side that would bring stability to the organization. He had a 10-year contract and all that, and his head was chopped off. And we were put in a really bad position as an organization.”

Davis continued, "We want to build something here and again, that's been the process and that mindset all along. Like I said, it got offset or kind of blown up when Jon Gruden was sent away and so we've been trying to get it right since then and we'll see, but I've got patience to get it right, and I think we've got the people now -- again I've always felt that -- results are what speak to me and that's what we'll see”

In 2021, Gruden resigned as the Raiders' head coach following allegations of racist, misogynistic, and anti-gay language in emails he wrote over a 10-year period while working as ESPN's lead analyst for "Monday Night Football."

The Raiders have been probing Gruden's emails to former NFL franchise president Bruce Allen, which were unearthed during an investigation into workplace misconduct under former owner Daniel Snyder. Since then, the Raiders have attempted to replace Gruden with Josh McDaniels, Antonio Pierce, and now Carroll.

Under Jon Gruden, the Raiders went 22-31 under him, their second stint with the franchise. After being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they won Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003, and finished 4-13 this season.
