Randy McMillan was drafted 12th overall in the 1981 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts, a hometown moment for the Maryland native. He made an instant impact, rushing for 146 yards and two touchdowns in his NFL debut against the New England Patriots, still one of the best first-game performances in franchise history.

When the Colts moved to Indianapolis in 1984, McMillan played a big role in helping the franchise find its new identity. He was recognized for his rugged and powerful running, and he led the Colts in rushing yards every year from 1984 to 1986. He ran for 3,876 yards and 24 touchdowns over six seasons, and he also caught passes.



But in April 1987, a terrible car accident near his Maryland home brought his bright career to an end. The crash broke his leg bones and hurt his face, which ended his stint in the NFL. He tried to make a short comeback with the Miami Dolphins, but he couldn't get back to full health.

Later in life, McMillan had to deal with other problems, like a spinal injury from a vehicle accident in 2002 that made it very hard for him to move around.
