Saquon Barkley may now be shining in Philadelphia, enjoying the spoils of playing for a Super Bowl-winning team, but he still holds a deep appreciation for the Giants' fanbase. Even though he left for a slightly better offer last season to sign with their division rivals, he continues to acknowledge their unwavering support and remembers the team that helped him get to this point. In his first season with the Eagles, Barkley reached new heights, proving his talent and dominating defenses. While Giants fans may still have hard feelings, his time in New York truly shaped him as a player and played a huge part in his rise to superstardom.

Barkley's Gratitude Toward Giants Fans

“I’d be naive to think they weren’t supportive to me over the last six years,” Barkley said this past week.

Barkley’s decision to sign a three-year, $37.75 million deal with the Eagles in free agency stung Giants fans, especially since it was reportedly just over $1 million more than New York’s best offer. Despite some disappointment, Barkley remains grateful.

“Obviously, a few of them were disappointed with my decision (to sign with the Eagles), but the way I look at it, all the things that happened over there and the love I have for them is the reason I am able to have the success I am having now. Just thankful for all those people over there.”

Giants fans would usually never be caught supporting the Eagles, but Barkley’s Super Bowl appearance stirred mixed emotions. While many remained loyal to their team, some couldn’t help but feel a soft spot for their former star, wishing he had never left for their division rivals.

Barkley’s Breakout Season in Philadelphia

What made matters even harder for Giants fans was Barkley’s breakout season in Philadelphia. Running behind one of the league’s best offensive lines, he thrived, racking up a staggering 2,005 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. He also contributed 278 receiving yards and two touchdowns, proving to be an unstoppable force.

His dominance wasn’t limited to the regular season. Barkley finished as the runner-up in MVP voting and earned the Offensive Player of the Year award. In the playoffs, he elevated his game even further, averaging an impressive 147.3 rushing yards per game and scoring five touchdowns leading up to the Super Bowl.

While Barkley’s success in Philadelphia is undeniable, his journey wouldn’t have been possible without the challenges he faced in New York. Giants fans always admired his resilience, even without the benefit of an elite offensive line. Though they may not celebrate his achievements with the Eagles, their respect for his effort and determination will endure for years to come.
