Within hours of Buffalo moving on following another playoff disappointment, league insiders are now connecting the veteran coach to several high-profile openings.

At 51, McDermott is still viewed as a steady, proven leader with postseason experience and a reputation for building disciplined teams. NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero offered early clarity on where McDermott might land during an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show. He listed out the Steelers, Ravens, and Titans as potential three spots where he would fit like a glove.

In the interview, Pelissero explained why the aforementioned teams make more sense than others at this stage of McDermott’s career. He said, “I think the teams to watch for Sean McDermott are potentially the Steelers, though that would be outside of their normal bucket in terms of who they look to hire. Baltimore is certainly one that I could see making a lot of sense for Sean McDermott. And the other one would be Tennessee.”


Among those options, Pittsburgh stands out for its stability over the years. The Steelers rarely change head coaches, and that patience could appeal to McDermott. The challenge would be significant, as the roster lacks a clear franchise quarterback, the offense has struggled to evolve, and the defense is aging.

Baltimore offers a different kind of appeal for the head coach, as the team already has elite talent in place, including Derrick Henry, who rushed for 1,595 yards at the age of 31, and quarterback Lamar Jackson. However, Jackson’s health has been the biggest question for the team, and if he stays on the field, the roster will be built to win with a potential boost from McDermott.

With Tennessee, the franchise has more risk but also room for exciting opportunities. The Titans struggled badly this season, yet new leadership under Mike Borgonzi and Chad Brinker signals a much-needed reset.
