He has worked closely with Matthew Stafford, who is having an MVP caliber season, and is viewed as a potential fresh voice for a franchise searching for direction.
Local voices didn’t miss the irony. ESPN Cleveland analysts Emmett Golden and Jerod Cherry discussed Scheelhaase’s possible arrival with a pointed comment, saying, "Nate Scheelhaase, you got a Pro Bowl quarterback," they said.
That line captures the tension surrounding Sanders. His rookie season included seven starts, a 3–4 record, seven touchdown passes, ten interceptions, and 1,400 passing yards. Those numbers, paired with a Pro Bowl appearance, have already ignited debate about whether he should be the Browns’ starter next season.
As Cleveland drags through another uncertain offseason, the problem feels bigger than just hiring a coach. Until the Browns decide who they truly believe in at quarterback, every decision around them will continue to feel unfinished.
