At approximately 4:30 PM local time, a physical altercation erupted at the popular open-air market, a common gathering spot for tailgating activities.

The incident transpired shortly after the conclusion of the football game, which saw the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeat the Detroit Lions by a score of 20-16 at nearby Ford Field.

According to Detroit Police Chief James White, the initial altercation involved multiple individuals and lasted for several minutes before subsiding.

However, the dispute reignited shortly thereafter in close proximity to the original location. As two individuals prepared to engage in a physical confrontation, a male suspect from Oak Park, Michigan, discharged a firearm at least two times.

Law enforcement officers already present at the scene due to the tailgating activities responded promptly to the shooting.

The suspect was apprehended, and two handguns were recovered. Two Detroit men, one in his 40s and the other in his 20s, sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were pronounced deceased.

Chief White addressed the media, emphasizing the inherent dangers of combining alcohol consumption, firearms, and large gatherings, stating, "Tailgating, drinking and guns — they don’t mix."

The suspect remains in custody, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
