The Miami Dolphins are facing a pivotal moment this season as questions swirl around the future of quarterback
Tua Tagovailoa. After missing the playoffs in 2024 and dealing with internal team turmoil—including a players-only meeting following a blowout loss—many believe major changes are coming in 2026.
Why the Dolphins could move on from Tua Tagovailoa
Tua Tagovailoa, now in his sixth year as Miami’s starter, has shown flashes of brilliance but failed to lead the team past mediocrity. Ongoing health concerns, particularly multiple concussions, further cloud his future. With his massive contract making a trade or cut complicated until 2027, the Dolphins face a strategic dilemma.
Pro Football & Sports Network’s James Fragoza predicts the Dolphins will use their projected No. 10 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to select South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers. Fragoza says, “Sellers possesses one of the highest ceilings in the entire 2026 NFL Draft QB class and is trending upward on the operational side of his game.”
What makes LaNorris Sellers a top prospect
Standing 6’3″ and weighing 242 pounds, Sellers offers an elite combination of arm strength and mobility. His ability to launch 70-yard throws and make plays with his legs makes him a dynamic prospect.
In his first full season as a starter in 2024, Sellers completed 65.6% of his passes for 2,534 yards and 18 touchdowns, while rushing for 674 yards and adding seven scores on the ground.
Despite his upside, Sellers remains raw and in need of development. Fragoza notes that “he’s also the complete opposite of Tua Tagovailoa from a prospect point of view, which the Dolphins may want.” Whether Sellers enters the draft or stays another year remains to be seen, but his potential is undeniable.
As the 2025 season unfolds, Miami’s front office will be under increasing pressure to plan for life after Tua.
