Josh Jacobs is an American professional football running back for the Green Bay Packers of the NFL. The 27-year-old offensive backfield member played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide from 2016 to 2018. In the 2019 NFL Draft, the Oakland [now Las Vegas] Raiders selected Jacobs as the 24th overall pick in the first round. He played for the Raiders from 2019 to 2023. In 2024, he joined the Packers.
Six years in the NFL, Jacobs has accumulated 7,803 rushing yards, 74 rushing touchdowns, a 4.2 rushing average, 269 receptions, 2,072 receiving yards, and two receiving touchdowns. According to Spotrac, his total career earnings are $46 million. Now, let’s look at his contract details, NFL fines, lavish mansion, shocking backstory, and more.

Contract details with Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers
In July 2019, Jacobs signed a rookie deal worth $11.93 million with the Oakland Raiders, including a $6.69 million signing bonus.
In March 2023, the Raiders applied a one-year franchise tag worth $10.091 million. In August 2023, he signed a one-year restructured contract extension with the Las Vegas Raiders for $11.791 million.
In March 2024, he signed a four-year, $48 million contract with the Green Bay Packers. His 2024 base salary was $1.2 million, with a $12.5 million signing bonus and a $600,000 workout bonus.
Fined for unnecessary roughness
Jacobs has been fined three times in his NFL career. In November 2023, he was fined $21,855 for an impermissible helmet use [unnecessary roughness] against the New York Giants.
Seven days later, he was fined again for unnecessary roughness and the same amount, this time against the New York Jets.
For the third time, he was fined $45,020 for impermissible use of the helmet against Tennessee Titans safety Quandre Diggs in September 2024.
Luxurious mansion in Las Vegas
Jacobs recently sold his custom-built Las Vegas mansion, a ‘dream home,’ for $4.7 million. The house is in the Augusta Canyon neighborhood within the Southern Highlands Gold Club, just minutes from the Las Vegas Strip.
It has three bedrooms, four bathrooms, a movie theatre, six-car garage, private courtyard, half-basketball court, lap pool, and a covered patio with a built-in barbecue.
In January 2020, Jacobs posted on X: “Blessed just bought my pops a house,” followed by three emojis: house, crossed fingers, and hundred points.
In April 2025, the running back appeared on The Jim Rome Show. Rome said he was from Southern California and has a son who went to school in Madison, where he still lives. They also have a summer home in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Rome told Jacobs he knows a bit about the state.
After a year of Jacobs playing for Green Bay, Rome asked if he had embraced the community and life there.
Jacobs shared, “I actually like it here [supposedly Wisconsin]. I was talking to my financial advisor. He was like...you know, I bought a house out here and all those type of things.
So, he was like, ‘Man, what you thinking about doing like, when it’s over with?’ I’m like, ‘I’m probably going to keep it.’
It’s just so peaceful here. The community is so loving and caring and giving. It does get cold. But for me, I don’t too much mind cold.”
Josh Jacobs’ shocking backstory
The standout running back grew up on the north side of Tulsa, Oklahoma. His parents separated when he was 8 years old. His father, Marty, got full custody of Josh. He grew up with four siblings.
His father struggled to make ends meet, and their financial situation worsened over time. They could not afford housing, so they lived out of a car and moved from one hotel room to another.
“I normalized a lot of things growing up,” Jacobs told ESPN in 2018. “Like I never thought, ‘Damn, I’m sleeping in a car.’ In a way, ‘I feel like it’s an advantage.’ Because I grind. I wouldn’t get complacent because I never had it easy.”
