NFL warns all players of a rising threat to homes at their residences amid a string of high-profile burglaries focused on NFL stars. After the cases involving Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce and Dallas Cowboys' Linval Joseph, the league warns its players to be alert by increasing home security and what they are posting online.
Threat Originates from Organized Thieves
The memo of the NFL depicted that sophisticated burglar rings have committed burglaries. In this crime, public records were used to identify the addresses of players. The burglars knew the schedule of the teams and observed on social media accounts about their absence at home, especially while the teams were away. Hence, good planning and observation of burglaries make them more specific and difficult to stop.
Social Media Education and Preventive Measures
Educating players to keep social media issues at arm's length, such as telling people where they are and where they are going, is part of the security advisory. At the same time online privacy settings are being made stricter, players are advised to take proactive steps like installing security cameras or alarm systems and ensuring that there is at least some life-like activity outside when they are away.

This memo leaked to the team security directors and players' union, stresses that the NFL indeed cares for its players' welfare both off and on the field. Criminal activity is becoming ever more targeted and sophisticated; the league has to act to protect the personal security of its players. This is the key expectation of the NFL as it asks its players to be more vigilant and make their homes less appealing to thieves.
Such an increase in burglary makes it apparently clear that celebrity fame comes with risks but also places a much-needed reminder on the athletes' and public figures' minds to hold on to personal security. The league is being proactive here for the sake of protecting not just their players' properties but their peace of mind as well.
