NEW DELHI: Country music icon Reba McEntire is set to make history at Super Bowl LVIII as she takes the stage to sing the national anthem before the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers face off on Sunday, February 11. The three-time Grammy winner, known for her remarkable contributions to country music, will add a special touch to the highly anticipated event.
Reba McEntire's connection to the national anthem dates back 50 years when she was discovered as a singer at the 1974 National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma after performing the anthem. Although she has graced numerous events with her rendition of the anthem since then, this marks her first Super Bowl performance.
Expressing her excitement about the opportunity, McEntire stated, "I'm honored to be part of something as big and historic as the Super Bowl coming to Las Vegas for the first time." The announcement of her Super Bowl performance was met with anticipation from fans and the entertainment industry alike.
In a recent interview on "CBS Mornings" in January, McEntire shared insights into her preparation for the national anthem performance. "You just warm up like you do a concert and sing it about five or six times, and get in there, and do it," she explained. The singer also revealed that the opportunity came through her manager, and with the encouragement of her boyfriend, Rex Linn, a passionate football fan, she gladly accepted.
Alongside McEntire, the pregame festivities will feature other notable artists, including Post Malone singing "America the Beautiful" and Andra Day performing "Lift Every Voice and Sing." The halftime show promises to be spectacular with Usher taking the stage.
Last year, Chris Stapleton delivered a memorable performance of the national anthem at the Super Bowl, continuing the tradition of iconic musical moments during the prestigious event.
Super Bowl LVIII will be broadcast on CBS and Nickelodeon, with streaming available on Paramount+, from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET, and fans around the world eagerly await the star-studded performances, including Reba McEntire's historic rendition of the national anthem.
