Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor will not practice on Thursday due to a sprained ankle, but the 25-year-old feels hopeful that the injury is not too extreme. No final determination has been made on his status for the Jaguars Sunday matchup.
The first report on the injury came from Monday, through Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, indicating that while Taylor does have a sprained ankle, he has fortunately not suffered worse. The news is watched closely because of Taylor's history with ankle problems, but as yet, no set date has been confirmed for his return.

Taylor dealt with some ankle problems too earlier, mainly in 2022. He requires a bit more attritional work to regain match fitness and with chronic ankle issues that were severe enough to prompt surgery just four days into 2021, adding some load in defence is necessary. He was once again benched for the season's first four games.
The Colts are hoping they can prevent momentum from slipping as they venture into their season.
Uncertainty for Sunday and Beyond This Injury in the Colts Offense
Taylor's absence would be a heavy blow to Indianapolis' intent to commit to running if the player has performed as well as he did so far in the season. The 2021 All-Pro has, in two games, rushed for 349 yards and four touchdowns, which cannot be ignored by the Colts' heads coach.
The Colts must be working on an alternate plan for Sunday in the wake of Taylor's uncertain status. Trey Sermon, listed here as Taylor's backup in this unofficial depth chart, has carried the ball just nine times this season. Third-string running back Tyler Goodson hasn't recorded a single carry. If Taylor's absence extends into the game, that doesn't bode well for the Colts' offense either, because quarterback Anthony Richardson is also limited in practice because of a hip injury. This spells some serious problems for the team as it approaches the match against the Jaguars.
