Michael Irvin says its losing a generation of fans

Michael Irvin, a Hall of Fame wide receiver who spent his 12-year career in Dallas, expressed his dissatisfaction with the Cowboys' decision to hire an existing staff member instead of his top choice, Deion Sanders, another Cowboys alumnus.

"I hope and pray that somehow, some way, somebody finds a damn man and his damn heart, stands up and says, 'We'll represent the star the right way.' We don't care who's coaching. We guarantee we're going to win and we're going to get to a championship game. But damn it, I doubt it. I'm so hurt," Irvin said tearfully on his YouTube channel.

Irvin, who often defended Jerry Jones in the past, continued his criticism by refusing to do so this time, disagreeing with the decision to promote Brian Schottenheimer as head coach. He believes the move is not in the team's best interest.

"I'll say this. All you jokers, everybody tries to blame Jerry Jones all the time. And I try to defend Jerry. This time I will not defend her. I don't like this decision," said Irvin about his opposition to the appointment of Brian Schottenheimer.

The opposition to Brian Schottenheimer's hiring as Cowboys OC stems from concerns over his recent track record and a preference for familiarity over innovation. Critics argue that, with Dan Quinn's success as the Commanders' head coach and Kellen Moore's impact with the Eagles, Dallas missed an opportunity to promote internal talent or bring in fresh ideas.

Irvin expressed his opposition to Brian Schottenheimer as a potential head coach during an appearance on SPAK on Fox Sports, stating that he wouldn’t like him as an option for the role.

"You need the right coach to get the best out of the team, but I think at this moment, you need the right coach to lift morale,"Irvin responded by emphasizing the importance of making the right choices and considering all factors, both on and off the field.

Irvin's passion and displeasure stem from playing his entire 12-year career with the Cowboys, who drafted him No. 11 overall in the 1988 NFL Draft. "How the hell can they pass something down when they don't even know about it? Worse yet, that generation has seen total domination from a team named the Kansas City Chiefs. So not only are you losing football games over here and opportunities over here and divisions over here, you're about to get our (America's Team) moniker snatched off our backs.”
