Ten years after becoming the face of the Oilers, Connor McDavid’s future in Edmonton is uncertain. As contract talks stall, his wife Lauren Kyle is making major business moves including a high-profile Olympic partnership. Could her growing empire rooted in Edmonton influence the NHL superstar’s next chapter?
Lauren Kyle’s Olympic breakthrough adds new twist to McDavid’s future
As McDavid’s $12.5 million AAV contract nears its July 2026 expiration, the hockey world is watching. Despite leading the Oilers to consecutive Stanley Cup Finals, McDavid has yet to commit to an extension—raising questions about whether he’ll stay or move on.
While fans speculate, Lauren Kyle is thriving in Edmonton. The interior designer and entrepreneur recently opened Trove Living, a luxury furniture and design store housed in the historic Canada Permanent building. It's also the headquarters of her design firm, Kyle & Co.
More impressively, Kyle’s fashion label, Sports Club Atelier, has landed a deal with Team Canada for the 2026 Winter Olympics. What began as custom playoff jackets for Oilers’ WAGs is now a full-scale fashion line that will roll out Olympic merchandise in major retailers.
“I don’t see it being just NHL or just hockey,” Kyle told Forbes. “There’s a lot of opportunity with the brand.”
Lauren’s growing presence in Edmonton is turning heads—not just for its business momentum, but for what it might mean off the ice. As she establishes deeper roots in the city, her success could quietly influence where Connor McDavid chooses to spend the next chapter of his NHL career.
“Winning is the most important thing. If I feel there’s a good window to win here over and over again, then signing is no problem” he said. “I still need to do what’s best for me and my family, and that’s who I have to take care of first.”
