Connor McDavid added his name to one of hockey's most exclusive lists on February 27. The Oilers captain recorded his 100th point of the season during a matchup against the Kings, becoming just the third player in NHL history to post nine 100-point campaigns.McDavid reached the milestone on an assist on Leon Draisaitl's power-play goal in Los Angeles. The helper gave him 35 goals and 65 assists through 60 games, making him the first player to reach 100 points in the 2025–26 season.

Connor McDavid Reaches Century Mark at Historic Pace

The achievement places McDavid alongside Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux in rarefied air. Gretzky holds the record with 15 100-point seasons, while Lemieux recorded 10 during his Hall of Fame career. McDavid now stands alone in third place after passing Marcel Dionne, who posted eight such campaigns. The Oilers star hit 100 points in 60 games or fewer for the fourth time in his career. Only three players have accomplished that feat more often. Gretzky did it 13 times, while Lemieux reached the mark eight times. Phil Esposito managed five such seasons during his dominant stretch in the 1970s.McDavid also became the first player to reach 100 points for the sixth time in his career. That ties Lemieux and Esposito for the second-most such seasons behind Gretzky's nine.
The 29-year-old has established himself as the defining offensive force of his generation. This marks McDavid's sixth straight season reaching triple digits in points. He has not fallen short of the century mark since the COVID-shortened 2019-20 campaign when he finished with 97 points in 64 games. His only other season without 100 points came during his injury-plagued rookie year when he appeared in just 45 games.McDavid's 100-point seasons began in 2016-17 when he won his first Art Ross Trophy at age 20. He has since captured five scoring titles, three Hart Trophies as league MVP, and four Ted Lindsay Awards as the most outstanding player voted by fellow players. The milestone comes as the Oilers fight for positioning in the Western Conference playoff race. Edmonton holds a 28-23-8 record and sits third in the Pacific Division with 64 points.McDavid returned from the Milan Olympics, where he led Canada in scoring despite falling to Team USA in the gold medal game. His focus now shifts to helping the Oilers secure home-ice advantage for the postseason push ahead.
