One of the most notable NHL updates involves franchise legend Paul Coffey returning to the Edmonton Oilers coaching staff to assist head coach Kris Knoblauch. The Edmonton Oilers also reassigned goaltender Calvin Pickard to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, after carrying multiple goaltenders created roster challenges. Additionally, rookie forward Matt Savoie was sent to the Bakersfield Condors as part of a salary-cap adjustment, especially with veteran forward Adam Henrique expected to return from long-term injured reserve. Because Savoie can move without waivers, the decision allowed the organization to manage roster space efficiently.
