Jack Eichel scored at 2:44 of overtime as the Vegas Golden Knights finished off a thrilling late-game rally to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-5 Thursday night at T-Mobile Arena. The winning goal capped off the Golden Knights’ sixth straight win and is the latest impressive display from one of the league’s hottest teams.

Jack Eichel provided the crucial element with the assist in overtime after Mark Stone chipped the loose puck from a 2-on-1 attempt.
Stone spotted Eichel on the backside and caught him with the pass, and the forward easily deceived the shot with a backhand deke before putting the puck past Toronto goaltender Joseph Woll.
“We’re competing when we don’t have the puck in overtime,” Eichel said. “[Stone] hits a post right there before we score, and we had a few changes. Credit to the whole group. It was a come-from-behind win, and we found a way to get a goal late there.”
Toronto dominated most of the first period, taking a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Morgan Rielly, William Nylander, and Auston Matthews. John Tavares and Scott Laughton also scored goals, but Toronto could not finish off the game.
Nylander scored and assisted, then left early in the first with a lower body injury. That’s just another problem Toronto has. Woll stopped 27 shots in goal as they fell to 23-16-8 with a key road game loss.
Despite earning a point, Toronto was left frustrated since they lost another lead they had towards the end of the match. Vegas currently leads the NHL with eight overtime victories when trailing in the third period this year. Adin Hill stopped 23 shots in his first game back from an injury.
Momentum is building, and confidence is running high as the Golden Knights are proving that they are capable of winning in various ways as the playoff season heats up.
