Macklin Celebrini's 4-point homecoming performance helps San Jose Sharks dominate Vancouver Canucks and find their footing
Macklin Celebrini had a homecoming performance to remember Tuesday night, as he led the San Jose Sharks to a resounding 5-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena. Playing in his home province of British Columbia, the North Vancouver native scored a goal and added three assists, sparking a quick and decisive Sharks surge after they found themselves behind early.
The win marked the second consecutive win for the Sharks, who have now won both games and are 7-3-0 over their last 10 contests. The loss, however, marked the third consecutive defeat for Vancouver, who have now won just once in its last 15 games and continues to struggle in a season that has steadily unraveled.
The tying goal sparked a strong period for the Sharks. Adam Gaudette gave the Sharks the lead in the middle of the first period after Celebrini intercepted a clearing attempt at the blue line, and Tyler Toffoli scored less than two minutes later with another one-timer that sent Lankinen to the locker room after three goals on six shots. Vancouver was forced to go to relief goalie Nikita Tolopilo, but the damage was already done.
Vancouver did manage to score a late power play goal from Filip Hronek, but this only served to temporarily paper over a disappointing evening of defensive missteps and missed opportunities. Elias Pettersson and Jake DeBrusk both contributed with two assists, but the Canucks struggled to muster much pressure, let alone significant pressure, throughout the course of the evening.
For Celebrini, however, this evening was truly special. Playing against the very team he had grown up supporting, the young star demonstrated a great deal of poise, talent, and goal-scoring ability, leading by example for the Sharks.
The Sharks also welcomed back defenseman Vincent Desharnais, who had been out with an injury for a significant amount of time. This has been a welcome addition to the Sharks’ roster, as it has finally given the Sharks a physical presence on the ice. As the Sharks continue to gain momentum, it is clear that this team has finally found its footing and its identity. For the Canucks, however, this loss has only served to further exacerbate concerns about direction and consistency as the season continues to slip away.

Macklin Celebrini’s goal and three assists help San Jose Sharks win over Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks got on the board just 75 seconds into the game in a 4-on-4 situation as Tom Willander scored with a high glove shot over Yaroslav Askarov. This gave the home fans a brief respite, but only a temporary one. Celebrini scored seconds later, tying the game 36 seconds later with a quick one-timer that fooled Kevin Lankinen, who was moving in the wrong direction, giving the home fans a definite sense that the momentum had shifted. The tying goal sparked a strong period for the Sharks.
