NHL contract update: St. Louis Blues sign free agent forward Felix Trudeau to a two-year, entry-level contract
The St. Louis Blues signed college free agent forward Felix Trudeau to a two-year entry-level contract on Monday. This was announced by the team officials, stating that the deal will begin in the 2026-27 NHL season, while Trudeau will finish the current season on a professional tryout with the AHL's Springfield Thunderbirds.
He is considered a valuable addition to the team, as the 23-year-old was named one of 10 candidates for the Hobey Baker Award as the top player in NCAA Division I men’s hockey. Earlier, the St. Louis Blues beat the NHL-worst Vancouver Canucks by 3-1 on Saturday to end a two-game losing streak.
As per reports, the club is just six points behind the Nashville Predators for the final wild-card playoff berth in the Western Conference. It is important to note that the club has won 7 games, lost 1 game in regulation, and lost 2 games in overtime/shootout in the most recent 10 games.
The St. Louis Blues have signed collegiate free agent forward Felix Trudeau to a two-year entry-level contract beginning with the 2026-27 season. This was officially announced by Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong. Trudeau will be seen joining the Blues’ AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds, on a professional tryout for the remainder of this season.
As for Trudeau’s background, he was playing for Sacred Heart University in the Atlantic Hockey America conference, where the 23-year-old young hockey player ranked second nationally in goals (25) and sixth in points (48) across 39 games this season.
He led the NCAA with 15 power-play goals, posted a +14 rating, and racked up 87 penalty minutes, showcasing his physical and scoring prowess. According to reports, in over four collegiate seasons, two at the University of Maine and two at Sacred Heart, Trudeau gained 99 points (46 goals, 53 assists) in 130 games.
According to the NHL, Trudeau tallied 38 points (15 goals, 23 assists) and 64 penalty minutes during his first year at Sacred Heart, earning AHA Second All‑Conference Team honors. Besides, Trudeau was a Hober Baker Award finalist, highlighting his status as one of the top undrafted NCAA Talents.
With this entry-level deal, Trudeau has to prove his worth in the AHL, as he is expected to begin his professional development in the league before pushing for an NHL roster spot with the Blues in the coming seasons.
