The incident occurred after his left leg tangled up with defenseman Drew Helleson's skates, in a battle for the puck near the slot during the second period of the match. Following this, he was seen going down in serious pain. The 30-year-old was unable to put any weight on his left foot. Earlier, the team deemed him day-to-day at the time.

The top goal scorer of the team was sidelined from the team for five games until he was seen in the morning skate and confirmed that he would return from a lower-body injury against the New York Rangers at UBS Arena on Saturday.

As per reports, Horvat's return was anticipated as he was seen during a practice session on Monday, wearing a red non-contact jersey. The Islanders' vision all week was to get him back in the lineup on Saturday with a valuable two points up for grabs, as he has scored 19 goals and 31 points in 32 games.


In Saturday’s match and in this season, Horvat is expected to play on a line with forwards Jonathan Drouin and Emil Heineman. Meanwhile, speaking about his return, the center told NHL, "I'm feeling good about myself right now and where I'm at.”

As for the New York Islanders’ performance, the team currently sits in third place in the competitive Metropolitan Division, with 44 points and a plus-3 goal differential.
