As per reports, Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl is expected to miss the remainder of the 2025-26 regular season with a lower-body injury, dealing a major blow to Edmonton's playoff push.
Reports suggest that the player sustained the injury during Edmonton’s 3–1 victory over the Nashville Predators, after taking a hard hit along the boards in the first period. Although he briefly returned for a couple of shifts, the German forward was unable to continue and did not return for the remainder of the game. After further medical evaluation, the Oilers have announced in an official statement that Leon Draisaitl will miss the remainder of the regular season with a lower-body injury.
The Edmonton Oilers have dealt a major blow ahead of the NHL playoffs, as star forward Leon Draisaitl is set to miss the remainder of the 2025-26 regular season due to a lower-body injury. According to reports, the player sustained the injury during Edmonton’s 3–1 victory over the Nashville Predators.
In the first period, Draisaitl took a hard hit from Predators forward Ozzy Wiesblatt, which caused him to awkwardly collide into the boards in front of the Nashville bench. He was seen gingerly walking towards the dressing room; however, he did not return following that and missed the rest of the game.
Over the years, the German national has scored 35 goals and 62 assists for 97 points in 65 games. He currently sits fourth in the NHL in scoring behind teammate Connor McDavid, Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon, and Tampa Bay Lightning winger, Nikita Kucherov. With his regular season officially shut down, Draisaitl’s streak of four consecutive 100-point campaigns will come to an end.
As for his performance so far, he was initially selected third overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Draisaitl scored 50 goals and 55 assists for 105 points. In the 2019-20 season, he won the Hart Trophy as the league’s most valuable player and the Art Ross Trophy as the league’s highest scorer. In 2024-25, he won the Maurice Richard Trophy as the league’s leading goal scorer.
With 75 points in 68 games, the Oilers sit in third place in the Pacific Division. According to Money Puck, they have an 80.2% chance of making the playoffs, although Draisaitl’s absence should probably shave a couple of percentage points off that number.
