NHL Injury Update: Simon Nemec placed on injured reserve, New Jersey Devils adjust defense
The New Jersey Devils are facing yet another setback, as their promising young defenseman, Simon Nemec, has been placed on the injured reserve list, according to a team announcement made on Tuesday. The 2022 NHL Draft saw the second overall pick in the form of Nemec, who had a season that was exceptionally hot. It took only 31 games for him to net seven goals, which was already one more than his previous season's best. The Devon team is up against a series of injuries, and his absence will be felt on the blue line while they try to get through tough times that already seem never-ending.
Nemec's input was not limited to just scoring, as he was very close to reaching his rookie season career high of 19 points, being just one point short. His last game was on December 11 versus Tampa Bay when he assisted on two goals. The right defenseman’s ability to defend and also score has made him a crucial member of the New Jersey young army, thus turning this latest injury into a huge challenge for the already inconsistent team that has been unable to find its rhythm this season.
The New Jersey Devils have lost their winning streak recently and have a poor 3-7-0 record over their last ten games, meaning they are no longer a possible playoff team in the Eastern Conference. They are not saying that the injuries have defeated them, but rather, they are very optimistic that they will soon be back to winning ways, with games against Vegas, Utah, and Buffalo next week. It is going to be very interesting to see how the young roster will fare during the absence of Nemec and other important players, as the fans will keep a close eye on the games.
It is a very difficult situation for the Devils team that is already dealing with injuries and inconsistency to suffer another injury in Simon Nemec’s case. The team’s ability to respond will be the determining factor in how quickly they lose their playoff chances, while Nemec is concentrating on his recovery to come back even more robust for the rest of the season.

How New Jersey Devils are adjusting without Simon Nemec
With Nemec off the roster, the Devils have made changes to their defense group in order to fill the emptiness. The top defense pair now consists of Jonas Siegenthaler and Dougie Hamilton, while Brenden Dillon is paired with Luke Hughes in the second group. The team is also coping with the absence of other injured players, such as star center Jack Hughes, as well as defensemen Brett Pesce and Jonathan Kovacevic, while forwards Arseny Gritsyuk, Timo Meier, Evgenii Dadonov, and Zack MacEwen have also been ruled out. To mitigate the situation, New Jersey has brought forward Nathan Legare from their AHL affiliate in Utica. It is a very difficult situation for the Devils team that is already dealing with injuries and inconsistency to suffer another injury in Simon Nemec’s case.
